We encourage our school communities to establish good habits and sustainable behaviour by reducing the amount of materials used and waste produced, by recycling and reusing materials wherever possible, by restoring what is deemed to have been destroyed and also by respecting the neighbourhood.
An awareness of the importance of the environment forms an intrinsic part of the curriculum and is covered in PSHCE, Science, PE, and Outdoor Education. Each school also has a Sustainability Committee or team of Green Unicorns, formed of pupils and staff who raise awareness of environmental issues and launch sustainable initiatives. Pupils now carry their own water bottles and we never buy plastic bottles. As recommended by the Green Unicorns, pupil planners no longer have plastic covers. Pupils are becoming ever more creative in their ideas to make Thomas’s greener. They are pictured here swimming through a sea of plastic bottles to raise awareness.
