Early Years

The Early Years applies to children from birth to the end of the Reception year. At Thomas’s, children join our Reception classes at the beginning of the school year in which they are five.

Our aim is to create a happy, inviting and exciting environment in which our children flourish and learn. The Early Years is a fundamental part of every child’s development and we believe that instilling positive dispositions towards learning at the beginning of their educational journey, will set children up with the skills they need to continue through life at school.

Our ethos is based on learning through play; allowing the children to question, be resilient, make links and reflect on everything that they do. Children have autonomy over their learning, whilst being supported, stretched and challenged. The children have the opportunity to make choices, be creative and solve problems, form good relationships with their peers and teachers and develop their own personalities
