Drama is taught weekly from Reception to Year 6.
Drama offers every child the opportunity to develop their communicative, creative and critical skills through the medium of play, and to step boldly into a vast array of dramatic worlds. Teaching is designed to nurture physical and imaginative lives, enrich natural capacity for empathy, develop practical theatre skills, and encourage the ability to work generously with others.
During their time at the school, pupils explore a broad repertoire of theatre forms including Shakespeare, multicultural storytelling, myths, musicals, and plays. All children take part in a year group production once a year. The children’s experiences are further enriched by cross-curricular collaborations with the Music and Art departments for every production.
We run four, pupil-led poetry recitals through the year for all Prep School pupils, and offer a range of weekly Extra Drama clubs, including a club for those Prep School pupils wishing to take LAMDA examinations.
As a department, we put collaborating as an ensemble, with every member of the group valued and respected as important as the next, at the heart of all we do.
