Learning Mathematics creates opportunities for and enriches the lives of our pupils. The curriculum provides pupils with essential mathematical skills and knowledge in number, shape, space and measure and handling data. It develops the numeracy capabilities that everyone needs in personal, work and civic life.
A high quality Mathematics education provides a foundation for understanding the world, the ability to reason mathematically, and a sense of excitement and curiosity about the subject. As pupils learn Mathematics, they need to acquire fluency in procedures and develop a conceptual understanding if they are to be able to solve increasingly complex problems.
The curriculum aims to ensure that children become confident, creative users and communicators of Mathematics. It aims to prepare them not just for the classroom but for real life as well.
