In Reception our children play and explore, make choices and learn to have a go and persevere, be creative and solve problems, form good relationships and learn to be safe, secure and happy.
A stimulating environment, including a multi-sensory outdoor play area and Mud Kitchen, supports the teachers’ planned differentiated activities and the children’s own initiatives for learning.
Each of the four Reception classes has a form teacher and learning assistant, with a further two learning assistants supporting two classes each. Music, Drama, Computing, Games, PE, Art, Ballet and Language and Culture are taught by subject specialist teachers in purpose built settings around the school. Children regularly go on Woodland Adventure trips to a local wood, where they take part in a range of immersive activities linked to their Enquiry work.
One afternoon a week the children are also involved in a carousel of activities with specialist teachers. These include: Awe and Wonder, Creative Technology, Music and Movement and a community project with service users from a local charity for isolated elderly people. As a result of the rich learning opportunities available, the children in Reception become inspired and curious, learn to work collaboratively and are excited to learn about the world around them.
