We believe in taking our values beyond the school gates. Battersea is a culturally and economically diverse area of London and we aim to be good neighbours to those on our doorstep. Through an active PTA and through the work of the Thomas’s Schools Foundation we engage in many ways with our local community. For example, many Thomas’s parents volunteer to read every week with pupils in five local primary schools; the PTA runs a variety of local volunteer projects for pupils in Middle School and Upper School and local youngsters come for weekly Science and Pottery Clubs at school. Every year in early December Thomas's Battersea and the Friends of Battersea Square put on Carols in the Square, a chance for local residents and school families to meet in Battersea Square and to sing carols in a Christmas atmosphere. The Mayor of Lambeth switches on the Christmas Lights and our school choirs boost the singing. Thomas's Battersea supports Caius House, the Katherine Low Settlement, Providence House, Dimson Lodge and George Potter House and our pupils have many opportunities to help with and get to know these community organisations. Teaching staff have founded a Community Gardening Club for the residents of Lindsay Court, our immediate neighbours across Battersea High Street. Pupils in the club enjoy learning gardening of fruit and vegetables and also get to know the local residents who drop in to enjoy the now flourishing garden.
