Thomas’s Clapham has a strong and supportive pastoral and welfare structure. Class teachers and form tutors take a close interest in their pupils’ pastoral welfare, and at the heart of this are the positive relationships which we work tirelessly to foster at every level. They are supported by the Year Leaders who have broad responsibilities for the welfare of children in each year group. The Deputy Head (Community and Welfare), who has particular expertise in dealing with pupil welfare and child development issues, oversees pastoral care across the school.
The Thomas’s Clapham Welfare Team meets weekly to discuss concerns and support requirements as raised by pupils, staff and parents. The team comprises:

Pupil voice is recognised on a daily basis in form and circle time. More formally, the Inspiring Living Committee, which is made up of elected children from Reception to Year 8, meet with our Assistant Head - Inspiring Living to discuss concerns and ideas on how we can make Thomas’s Clapham an even better school. This is also an opportunity to discuss anti-bullying and day to day life at school.
Our assembly and circle time programmes are central to the welfare and pastoral system at Thomas’s Clapham. We believe it is not enough to simply have people around; we want all children to belong. Weekly assemblies, circle time and Inspiring Living lessons provide opportunities for children to make emotional connections with others. Through explicitly teaching values education we reinforce pro social behaviours and shift children’s thinking from ‘knowing good’ to ‘doing good’. The aim of our values education and Inspiring Living programs are to ensure children know what to do and how to behave appropriately when no one is looking, The Better Clapham Way.
Parents are encouraged to contact staff if there is a concern about their child no matter how big or small. All staff are contactable by email and there is a strong culture of teachers and parents working together to ensure pupils' welfare.
