We are delighted to announce that the Headmaster of Thomas’s Battersea from September 2017 will be Mr Simon O’Malley.
Simon, 52, is currently the Headmaster of Wellesley House School, a post which he has held for the last ten years. Before gaining his PGCE, Simon read English at the University of Aberdeen and went on to gain extensive experience in preparatory schools both in the UK and abroad. He was Head of English at The Banda School, Nairobi in 1987, joined Newland House in Twickenham in 1994 and became Deputy Head of Beaudesert Park in 1997. He was appointed Headmaster of Wellesley House in 2006.
Simon is married to Katy, who teaches Art at Wellesley House. They have two children: Laragh, 20, who is studying at Bristol University and Robert, 19, who is currently on his gap year. Both children were educated at Uppingham, where both were Head of School.
Simon was the unanimous choice of the selection panel and it was abundantly clear that his personal ethos is fully aligned with the values of Thomas’s. He has gained an enviable reputation as a hardworking, clear-sighted, principled and experienced Headmaster and will quite clearly be an excellent role model for our pupils, staff and parents. He is wholly committed to ensuring a broad range of co-curricular opportunities whilst maintaining the highest possible standards of teaching and learning.
We have no doubt that Simon embodies the values and ethos of our school and has all the attributes necessary to take forward a happy and dynamic prep school.
